In compliance with circular instructions No.2/2022 the Regional Works Office in the New Guinea Islands Region was the first to carry out its handover/takeover ceremony last week Thursday in Kokopo witnessed by all the works staff of East New Britain Province.
The small but significant occasion marks the two years of the predecessor Mr. Brain Alois the former RWM (Islands) and the incumbent RWM Mr. John Sitapai incoming to take over the reigns as the regional boss
Mr. Alois has served the Department of Works for the last 27 years under many capacities as works manager, first assistant secretary and regional manager before his substantive position as the former regional manager Islands Region.
He is a very senior engineer and the management after consulting with him regarding the changes he decided to remain in Kokopo to be with his son who is doing grade 12 at Kokopo Secondary School.
Mr Alois said he is willing to make himself available for the management to consider him for different roles with the department
Connect PNG program or to train young engineers that just got out of school on hands on job apart from the classroom theory.
Whilst congratulating Mr. Alois in his 27 years of service to the department incumbent Mr. Sitapai, incoming regional works manager (Islands) made it clear to the staff that more work needs to be done and this change does not mean that people will be displaced but we realign ourselves and work as a team player.
Mr Sitapai and fellow other regional works managers will all be based and operating out of the DOW Headquarters in Port Moresby. The East New Britain Provincial Works Manager is Mr. Amos Fimiamba who continues to hold onto his office for the purpose of project continuity as Kokopo is the headquarters of the New Guinea Islands Region.
