The next phases of the program will see a continued focus on expanding and upgrading Papua New Guinea’s national road network
Completion of Phase 1 (2021–2027)
- Rehabilitate over 3,000 kilometers of national roads to all-weather standards.
- Replace or construct 10 national bridges and 60 rural bridges to enhance year-round connectivity.
Transition to Phase 2 (2028–2034)
- Develop an additional 4,000 kilometers of new roads to connect remote and underserved communities.
- Address critical missing links to fully integrate provincial and district road networks into the national system.
Launch of Phase 3 (2035–2040)
- Expand multi-modal transport options, including railways and improved access to ports and airports, ensuring seamless national and regional connectivity.
