Expansion of Road and Bridge Networks

The next phases of the program will see a continued focus on expanding and upgrading Papua New Guinea’s national road network

Completion of Phase 1 (2021–2027)

Rehabilitate over 3,000 kilometers of national roads to all-weather standards.
Replace or construct 10 national bridges and 60 rural bridges to enhance year-round connectivity.

Transition to Phase 2 (2028–2034)

Develop an additional 4,000 kilometers of new roads to connect remote and underserved communities.
Address critical missing links to fully integrate provincial and district road networks into the national system.

Launch of Phase 3 (2035–2040)

Expand multi-modal transport options, including railways and improved access to ports and airports, ensuring seamless national and regional connectivity.
