About Connect PNG
The Connect PNG Program is a key component of the National Road Network Strategy (NRNS), which is structured around two main streams
- Maintenance of the Existing Network: Ensuring the sustainability and functionality of the current road infrastructure through regular upkeep and rehabilitation.
- Expansion of the Existing Network: This is where Connect PNG plays a transformative role, focusing on building new infrastructure to connect previously isolated regions and communities.
The Connect PNG Program is Papua New Guinea’s most ambitious and transformative infrastructure initiative, setting the foundation for a connected, resilient, and prosperous nation. Launched in 2021, this 20-year strategic development plan reflects the government’s vision of creating a unified country where every citizen, no matter how remote, has access to roads, bridges, and essential services.
At its core, Connect PNG is more than just a network of roads—it is a lifeline for communities, a driver of economic growth, and a catalyst for social inclusion. By integrating sustainability, climate resilience, and innovative practices, the program positions Papua New Guinea as a model for infrastructure-led national development in the region.
Guided by the Department of Works and Highways (DoWH), the program is aligned with the Medium-Term Development Plan IV (MTDP IV) and the National Road Network Strategy (NRNS). This alignment ensures that the outcomes of Connect PNG directly support Papua New Guinea’s long-term development goals, fostering inclusive growth and connectivity across the nation.
