Celebrating PNG's Independence: Acknowledgements and Commitments from the Department of Works and Highways

Acting Secretary Mr. Gibson Holemba acknowledged the presence of the Minister Honorable Solan Mirisim, Governor for West Sepik Mr. Tony Wowo, the four Executive Directors who were present at the time accept Mr. Simeon Suagu – Acting Executive Director – Network Planning, Design Standards who was on duty travel.

“In relation to what the Minister has mentioned, the 21 vehicles will be painted in the yellow color representing Works in the 21 provinces. Niugini Islands, Momase and Highlands regions will drive to Port Moresby using the Trans National Highway. Southern region will drive from East Cape (Milne Bay Province) to Port Moresby through Magi Highway and we will celebrate the 50th Independence anniversary here at the HQ after that we will convey back to Lae”. 

“Our Independence gift to the Nation is the Trans National Highway and the Southern Magi Highway from East Cape all the way to Lae. That’s our commitment to the Government and the Government to the People. Another gift is the four-lane road from Nadzab to Lae, completion date is September 2025 – the project includes the Yalo Bridge”.

“On behalf of all of us, let me wish you all Happy Independence and on this occasion let me take this time to acknowledge our former secretary Mr. David Wereh for his contributions to Department of Works since he became Secretary in the last 12 years, he has contributed so much”.

“I rise from the shoulders of former Secretary David Wereh, Steven Pup, Brian Alois, John Ame, Simeon Suagu, Gabriel Tomtai, Alex Gabia and all the engineers”. 

“The commitment the staff has given me over the last 3 weeks is very appreciable”.
