CDRM Phase 2 – West Sepik Province
Provincial Works Manager Mr Benjamin Haiken for West Sepik Province gave a short but well-articulated brief of West Sepik Province starting with an introduction of the province geographically.
The four (4) Districts of West Sepik Provine are;
- Aitape-Lumi District
- Vanimo-Green District
- Telefomin District
- Nuku District
The Provincial National Road – The West Sepik Province portion of the Sepik Coastal Highway transverse through the coastal plains starting Salamin border ending in Vanimo Wutung Border (277km).
The Sepik Highway Proportion starts at transverse through the Torricelli Mountains and the Prince Alexander Mountains in the North. It starts at Warasikau ending at Karatem (88.9 km).
Machines in the province on the proposed sites;
Aitape to Ramo
Reconstruction of Aitape to Ramo Junction 39.6km. Heavy maintenance of NR0009 of the Coastal Highway Portion.
Ramo to Imbio (Vegetation Control)
Reconstruction of Aitape to Ramo junction 73km. Heavy maintentance of NR0009 of the Coastal Highway Portion.
Mr Haiken said physical works completed 100% and TSSP has taken over for routines maintenance however, equipment is not very high as can be reflected on the revenue collected.
From the K10m funding this financial year 2022, K1m will be allocated to PTDTA for Aitape to Vanimo road (Sera-Imbio section).
The four equipment in WSP is not sufficient to meet the increasing demand for road construction when we consider the sub-national roads being transferred to the provinces. The two-equipment taken from WSP to only help providing accessibility along the Aitape to Vanimo Road.
