Following the official launch of the Southern Corridor Missing Link, a special dinner was hosted at the Alotau Bay Hotel on the evening of 31st August 2025. The occasion was more than a celebration of the new project — it was also a night to recognise and honour the dedication of three long-serving staff of the Department of Works & Highways (DoWH) – Alotau.

This initiative was made possible through the leadership of Mr. Brian Alois, Executive Director – Field Operations, whose vision is to acknowledge long-serving DoWH staff across the country as part of Papua New Guinea’s 50th Anniversary celebrations.

In Alotau, three staff members were recognised for their outstanding service of more than 30 years as permanent public servants:

  • Lydia Mark – Joined DoWH on 11 May 1989. With an exceptional 37 years of service, she was honoured with the Gold Award.
  • Didi Gogo – Joined on 17 May 1994. With 32 years of service, he received the Silver Award.
  • Steven John – Joined on 7 September 1994. With 32 years of service, he also received the Silver Award.

Their dedication and commitment to the Department stand as an inspiration to colleagues and future generations.
