The Department of Works and Highways (DoWH) proudly joined the national Pinktober 2025 campaign, reaffirming its commitment to the Cancer Foundation Papua New Guinea (CFPNG) and the fight against all forms of cancer.
Since 2022, DoWH has been an active participant in CFPNG initiatives, conducting internal awareness sessions led by Naomi Parker, Manager for Occupational Health and Safety, who has championed workplace health programs since 2016.
On Tuesday, 21st October 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, the Department hosted representatives from CFPNG, Paradise Private Hospital, and Glorious Medical Services at the TSB Conference Room, DoWH Headquarters. The session featured an insightful presentation on Breast Cancer, Cervical Cancer, and Prostate Cancer awareness and prevention, delivered by Dr. Grace from Paradise Private Hospital and a CFPNG representative.
Following the presentation, Glorious Medical Services conducted free wellness checks for DoWH staff, including assessments for blood pressure, glucose, pulse, oxygen level, weight, and dental health — promoting early detection and proactive health management among employees.
October is globally recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, encourage early detection, and support those affected by cancer. In Papua New Guinea, breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women and a leading cause of cancer-related deaths.
Staff were encouraged to take personal responsibility for their well-being by participating in medical screenings, joining health awareness programs, and maintaining balanced lifestyles through healthy diets, regular exercise, and stress management.
As DoWH observed Pinktober 2025, the message was clear — to support one another in building a workplace that values wellness, prevention, and care.
Because a healthy workforce is a strong and effective workforce.
