His Exellency Chief Sir Bob Bofeng Dadae, GCL, GCMG, KStJ, Governor General of Papua New Guinea on behalf of the state executed a contract agreement for a new Market facility in Buin, South Bougainville District of the Autonomous Region of Bougainville.
The contract is valued at K12,803,911.99, inclusive of GST, and will be fully funded by the South Bougainville District Development Authority (DDA).
The construction of the new Buin Market is expected to take a year from the date of the commencement.
The National Executive Council (NEC) has awarded the contract to KPT Engineering Ltd.
Company Representatives Charles Jachwa and Acezel Lauc signed the contract witnessed by the state representative, Secretary of Works and Highways Gibson Holemba at Government house this morning, also present was a delegation from Buin representing the South Bougainville District.
Mr. Holemba acknowledged the Minister for ICT Hon. Timothy Masiu, MP for South Bougainville for his tireless efforts pushing for this to happen and ensuring the contract is signed.
He said that as part of the medium term development plan IV which includes building and construction of social infrastructure like telecommunications, water, power, urbanization, and special economic zones, today we now witness is the contract signing of the Buin International Market, because Solomon Islands comes there to do trade.
In the ABG, at the moment in terms of GoPNG investment, it continues with road Works currently going on in small Buka.
From Kokopau all the way to Arawa and Tinputs coming back and From Kangu to Toimonapu and back to Buin.
As GoPNG is building the roads, the roads itself cannot make money and therefore we need investment in the areas of social infrastructure development like the new Buin Market, and agricultural activities, Fisheries to generate back revenue on the road infrastructure investments.
It's good to see that as the Government is building roads the district and provinces invest in social infrastructure to generate economic returns on those investments.
