Western Province Witnesses Signing of Two Major Road Contracts Under the Ok Tedi Tax Credit Scheme

Today, we witnessed the signing of two significant road contracts funded under the Ok Tedi Tax Credit Scheme (TCS):

1. Tapila–Wipim–Morehead–Weam Road
2. Kukuzaba–June River Road (84km) – a key section of the Kiunga–Aimbak Road.

Ok Tedi Mining Limited (OTML) has agreed to fund this 84km section, while the National Government and the Fly River Provincial Government (FRPG) will support the remaining sections.

The next project in the pipeline is the West Bank Road, which will run along the western bank of the Alice River from Okma through Hukim, Kunkim, Butmabin, Komokbin, Yoki, and Dome to Atkamba, linking up with the Kokonda Road that connects to Kiunga. If all goes well, we expect the contract for this project to be signed before the year ends.

I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Tax Credit Scheme team, Ok Tedi Mining Limited, the Managing Director, Senior Executive Team, and all the dedicated employees and contractors of Ok Tedi Mine for their tireless efforts.

Importantly, I also acknowledge and thank the landowners of the Mine and the CMCA Communities for their continuous support and partnership.

My gratitude also goes to all the Members of Parliament from Western Province, the four DDA Chairmen, members of my PEC and JBPC, and the Provincial Administration for their commitment during the approval process.
