Field Operations Wing - Strategic Objectives and Major Programs
1. Sub-National Road Network Strategy (SNRNS)
Aimed at enhancing rural connectivity, the SNRNS focuses on
- Maintenance and construction of provincial and district roads.
- Adoption of Long-Term Maintenance Contracts (LTMC) to ensure road sustainability.
- Supporting provincial governments to execute their Five-Year Infrastructure Development Plans.
2. Connect PNG Program
As part of this national initiative, the Field Operations Wing is driving
- Development of over 2,500 km of new roads and rehabilitation of 4,000 km of existing roads by 2027.
- Delivery of missing link roads, such as the Gulf-Southern Highlands Missing Link and the Trans-Island Highway, to unlock economic potential in rural areas.
- Road and bridge upgrades to improve economic corridors and disaster resilience.
3. Climate-Resilient Infrastructure Development
The wing incorporates climate-resilient designs into its projects to enhance the durability and sustainability of road networks.
These include
- Elevated roads in flood-prone areas.
- Climate-resilient bridge structures to withstand extreme weather events.
